Uniform Rules

Whangaparāoa College has high expectations regarding the wearing of the college uniform at all year levels. Learners are expected to wear the uniform correctly to and from school, at school or when on activities related to the college whether currently in the new or old school uniform.

School Blazer

  • The school blazer is a compulsory uniform item and it is expected that every learner will wear the blazer for all school assemblies, special events, formal occasions, when representing the school including when on school trips, and as directed by staff.
  • As regular outerwear, the blazer is expected to be the primary additional layer of the school uniform.  The school jersey is an optional additional layer and must not be worn instead of the blazer.
  • Blazer requirements may be adjusted in warmer weather (Terms 1 & 4) with any changes clearly communicated by the school in advance, to learners and whānau.

White School Shirts

  • The school tie must be worn with the school shirts, at all year levels.
  • Any clothing worn under school shirts must not be visible. Long-sleeved thermals, coloured or printed T-shirts are not to be worn under the school shirts.
  • School shirts must be worn with the top button fastened.  Note: fitted blouses have a “hidden” collar button and elastic loop.
School Tie
  • Learners may remove school ties during school break times only if they are actively participating in sport activities on the junior playground, field or on the turf, not hard surface areas around the school.
  • School ties must be put back on for return to class after breaks and worn at all times in class.
  • In Science Labs and Technology classes the school tie will be tucked into the school shirt, combined with the wearing of art smocks/art t-shirts/aprons etc, or as directed by staff.

School Skirt

  • The mid length school skirt (logo on bottom right) must be worn knee length.
  • Skirts must be purchased in the correct size to ensure a comfortable fit at the correct length.

Jackets

  • All year levels may wear the waterproof school jacket, or a plain dark blue or plain black waterproof rain jacket/coat to and from school and at break times.  Wet weather jackets are not a replacement for the school blazer.
  • As outerwear, these items are not to be worn in classrooms (all teaching spaces are heated during cooler weather).
  • No puffer jackets of any type are to be worn.
Footwear
  • Learners are to wear black, flat-heeled, covered/closed in shoes only.
  • Shoes must be entirely black, with no coloured soles or coloured logos, and sit below the ankle.
  • No sandals of any type or Crocs are to be worn.

Other

  • Socks should be plain black ankle socks (eg no "invisible" or knee high socks).  Black opaque or flesh coloured stockings only can be worn.
  • Learners are free to wear jewellery of their choosing as long as it is not deemed, by the school, to be a health and safety risk.  There are no restrictions on learner’s hairstyles or hair colour.
