Kia ora e te whānau ō Whangaparāoa
We have been delighted to welcome the Education Review Office (ERO) to Whangaparāoa College this week. This is the formal review process that occurs every 3 years for every school. The ERO team has been meeting with members of the Board, our Senior Leaders, staff, and learners. They have also enjoyed being in classrooms and seeing the positive learning that is happening in our school. We now wait with anticipation for their findings and report. Once we have that, we will share it with you all.
Today, the nominations for the Board have closed. Thank you to everyone who expressed an interest in being part of the Board. We will be going to an election, with voting papers being sent via email from Election Pilot on 13 August. To ensure you have the best possible information to cast your vote, we are holding a ‘Meet the Candidate’ evening on Thursday, 14 August. All are encouraged and welcome to attend to hear directly from the candidates.
As we are halfway through Term 3, I need to remind our community of the importance of regular attendance at school. It is important that learners have consistent and regular attendance as we know being present, ready to learn, and engaged will ensure they achieve their potential. We have numerous ways to support you, support your learners with positive attendance habits - if you have any queries at all, please contact us.
We have had numerous learner successes in the last fortnight. Zoe Pederson, Year 13, was awarded the Surf Livesaving Northern Region U19 Sportswoman of the year - a magnificent achievement. We have also had two bands, Chaotic Blaze and The People gain Top 20 success in the National Smokefree Rockquest competition, another amazing achievement.
Next week our musicians are performing in the KBB Festival in the city. This festival is the culmination of the extremely hard work our performance bands have put in over this year, and we wish them the best of luck. We are also nearing the end of the winter sports season. Good luck to all our teams as your season nears the end - finish strong!
With everything that we offer outside the classroom, the hard work inside the classroom will be what our learners are officially measured again at the end of the year. They should be ready to learn at every possible opportunity. Now is the time they have to put in the hard work to get the results they deserve at the end of the year.
Let’s keep working together to support every learner to be present, engaged, and striving for success – both in and out of the classroom.

Year 8 Sports CampIn July, 29 of our Year 8 learners had an unforgettable time at Totara Springs Christian Camp in Matamata. Our tamariki represented Whangaparāoa College with immense school pride and outstanding sportsmanship.
They embraced a wide range of activities, from familiar sports like netball, football and touch to new challenges like rock climbing, darts and mini golf. Their dedication and hard work were truly impressive, leading to them reaching 11 semi-finals and an amazing 5 major finals!
A huge thank you to our fantastic learner helper, Sophie Leslie, for her incredible maturity and leadership throughout the week.
Our learners truly embodied our Āhuatanga Whangaparāoa values. We are so proud of them for taking on new challenges, forging lasting friendships, and taking home valuable life lessons.
